Youngling was hard at work this evening, making her way through her workbook. She did very well, and is beginning to get the hang of letter sounds, which is the only thing giving her difficulties.

I have tried to have school with Youngling at different times of day, feeling out what is best for us. In the morning, she just is not very interested. There are just so many things to do in a day, and her mind is focused squarely on all the adventures that she and her dolls are going to have, what games she is going to play, and how many goofy drawings of me that she can make.

There is a blank space in the middle of our day, when there is nothing much going on. I had thought that this would be the ideal time for school, as there is nothing on television, and the morning chores are usually done. However, Youngling just does not feel the same, and I don't blame her. So, instead of spending the afternoon at the table, we will sometimes do a bit of learning on the internet, and spend the rest of the time playing. After all, what better time is there to play than in the middle of the afternoon?

Well, we seem to have finally found it. Our best school time is directly after dinner. The day has worn her out enough that she can sit still for a while without bouncing around the room. With a full belly, she sits nicely. I enjoy having her in the kitchen also, since I am in there washing dishes already. It is nice to have someone to talk to, and Youngling enjoys that I am there to help her, but not so focused on her work that I hover too much. I admit to being too picky sometimes, and I know how annoying it is for her. *laughs* I find it annoying too, and am trying to stop. So, we have plenty of time after dinner to work on her lessons, and I am bothered in the slightest to let the dishes sit for a minute or two while I help her with the harder lessons. It keeps my own chores from being too tedious.

Youngling worked on "B b" words, "C c" words, and "D d" words today. She needs more help on writing the lowercase "d", but that is to be expected since we have mainly studied uppercase letters until now. She is doing very well though. Youngling was enjoying her school work so much that she did not want to stop, even after she was becoming too tired to do quality work. I told her that we would stop for the night, and she was pretty disappointed. I sure don't mind quitting on that note. :o )
